LPN Admission Requirements
CAAN Academy of Nursing offers
License Practical Nursing Program for all eligible students throughout
Matteson, IL, and surrounding areas. CAAN graduates are prepared to assume entry-level practical nursing positions in acute care, long-term care, and ambulatory care settings. Graduates of the program receive a Certificate of Completion and are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) and seek licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
What are the admission requirements for the LPN program?
Prerequisites
Prospective students are required to have before applying for admission, the following prerequisites:
- Medical Terminology (if you are a Certified Nursing Assistant [CNA], you may take a Proficiency exam & this course may be waived with a passing score)
- Basic Computer Course (may take a proficiency exam & this course may be waived with a passing score)
- Psychology 101
- English 101
- Math 090 or Higher
- Anatomy and Physiology (With a Lab)
Application
The application must be completed in its entirety, including:
- $60 non-refundable application fee
- One page typed essay regarding prospective student desire to be a nurse (Please limit essay to 500 words, double-spaced, Times New Roman Font.)
- Copy of an Official Transcript
- Two letters of recommendation (One Personal and One Professional - the professional letter should be on company letterhead)
Entrance Exam
The entrance exam assesses your academic readiness for the practical nursing program. The exam consist of 3 sections: 2 math and 1 reading. The exam is 2 hours long. To be eligible for admission, you must achieve a cumulative score of at least 12.0 on the exam.
Admissions Interview
CAAN Academy provides quality nursing education to qualified applicants. Our program length is 59 weeks, requiring students to remain focused, driven, and dedicated to their studies. Our interview provides students and administration the time to get to know each other and what's expected of our students.

Applicants will be notified regarding the admission status 10-days before their applied session.
Each student must meet the above criteria and apply them with all of the above-listed requirements. If chosen as a prospective candidate, you will interview with the committee selected for student admissions. The committee will be made up of educators, business leaders, and mentors.
All decisions made by the selection committee will be final.

59 Weeks; 1180 Clock Hours
All Sessions meet 5-days a week
Graduates are prepared to assume entry-level practical nursing positions in acute care, long–term care, and ambulatory care settings. While encouraged and equipped to pursue Advanced Levels of Professional Nursing Education. Graduates of the program receive a certificate of completion and are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX - PN) and seek licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Eligibility
Students must meet the following criteria:
- Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate
- Must be free of disqualifying convictions
- Have and maintain a cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) through their school career.
- Must have prerequisites completed before applying for the program
- The student must complete an evaluation exam administered by CAAN with a passing score of 12.0
